Village Computer Club |
All sorts from the young to the retired, male and female, experienced professionals and terrified new users. Some were programming computers decades ago and others never will. What ties us all together is a common enthusiasm.
We have two sorts of meetings.
- The formal ones start with a tutorial - usually given by a member - followed by a group session where club
matters are discussed and members' technical queries are resolved (usually).
- The informal meetings start with a free for all - usually with several computers up and running (or in some
cases, not). Members bring in their problem systems to be fixed, new devices that they can't install or
something that they want to show off. The second part of the meeting is given over to a group session as
above.
Of course, we also drink tea or coffee and chat a lot.
We have few absolute beginners sessions nowadays. With the advent of excellent PC facilities and education in our
libraries and the local further education system, the need for these is much reduced. Simple questions can be
answered during a group session in the second part of every meeting.
Rather, we try to widen members' knowledge and experience. Our future programme is shown and we've had
tutorials on the following topics during the last couple of years.
Walberton Village Hall on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm. Click Find Us and Meeting Calendar for more details.
When it was first formed, the club started out as a 'five villages' organisation. Membership isn't restricted by residence though, and it's not unknown for people to travel some distance to meetings.
We have several PCs that can be used during club evenings and the use of a data projector. The latter makes it
possible for all the audience to see what the tutor is describing on a six foot screen. We have internet access
during meetings and the networking equipment to allow several computers to share it.
We also have a modest library.
PCs running some variant of Windows. It's not that we're against Apple Macs or other operating systems. It's just that those are what our members have.
